Mision X IV. - The battle over the hot wire
Year: 2007
In 1879 in New York one of the biggest court cases in history is about to reach it’s climax. The worldwide interest is enormous. The decision will be made as to who the real inventor of the telephone is. The Western Union Telegraph Company, one of the largest companies worldwide, wants to monopolise the telephone industry. They are fighting against Alexander Graham Bell. They claim his patent of the telephone is unlawful, That he stole it from the famous engineer Elisha Gray.
Up until now the process has not been going well for Alexander Graham Bell, who is a teacher for deaf-mutes. Many experts have testified on behalf of Western Union and the process appears to be decided. Only Bell’s own testimony could turn things around. He is ready to fight for his invention.
This system enables the hearing impaired to follow the presentation. The speech is transmitted (like a telephone) via radio waves to the receivers and translated into script. The synthesis of both of Bell’s both passions which he never invented himself in the battle over the hot wire.
