rough storyline On June 15th 1873 the German multimillionaire Heinrich Schliemann discovers together with his wife Sophia in Troy one of the most valuable treasure in the world: the Gold of King Priamos. It is a wish come true for him, that’s what he wrote down in his memoires – but this is not what happened. We are telling the true story. Schliemann first got in touch with troy when he was 7 years old. As a Christmas present he got an illustratd book “Ilias” by Homer. But it wil take another 40 years before Schliemann starts the search for Troy. He first makes a career that earns him a lot of money and allows him to retire at the age of 44. Homers Ilias is so far only seen as poetry but Schliemann believes the story to be the truth, based on historic facts. He travel to the Troas, an area in which several scientists expect the legendary Troy under the hill of Bali Dag. But the references made in Ilias donīt compare to the facts. Schliemann is disappointetd and decides to leave. The Englishmen Frank Calvert, whom he meets coincidently, tells him about Troy being somewhere different, under the hill of Hissarlik Trial digs assure him and he plans the discovery of Troy. His dream is to discover it with a greek beauty by his side. He gets divorced from his first wife and order the search for a greek woman. It is the 17 year old Sophia Engastromenos that he then marries in an arranged and paid deal. In 1871 Schliemann starts with more than 100 workers to dig on the hill of Hisarlik. He wants to find King Priamos castle and therefore lets his workers dig a 40 metre long and 12 metre wide trench the so called Schliemann trech. Burt not only does he find a city, he finds 9 layers of soil – the hill had been populated for more than 3000 years. But in which layer of clay can he find the famous Troy as mentioned by Homer? In the second layer from the bottom he discovers thick walls and burned soil and believes to have found the city of Troy. But he needs proof. Especially the German scientist believe that he is an amateur and charlatan who believes the fantasies of a poet being the truth. After 3 years of work he suddenly discovers a big treasure and he believes it to be the treasure of Priamos and a proof for the existence of Troy. Today the sciences know that he dug too deep. The treasure is about 1000 years older than Homers Troy. Schliemann is being accused of falsifying the treasure. To convince his critics he wants to finds the remains of King Priamos enemy, King Agamenon. He travels to Greece and luck strikes him: he actually discovers an immense gold treasure which he believes to be the tomb of Agamenon. But he is wrong again, the discovery is 4000 years older than the troyan war. Schliemann discovered two gigantic treasures but he was tragically wrong twice. His achievements for archaeology are immense but the fact that he desperately wanted to proof Homers story to be the truth always kept criticism alive. It is for that reason that he constantly changes notes, dates and locations in his diary to match his finds with his believed truth. Modern sciences today think that he actually discovered Troy. If there was actually a war as described by Homer is not yet been proofed.
